The story of Castors Pastures

Tom Chicken Farmer.jpg

Who we are

Castors Pastures was founded in 2024 by Tom, a local villager who dreamed of creating a farm that not only promotes healthy living and sustainable practices, but also brings something unique to the village of Castor & Ailsworth and surrounding areas.

With a deep love for the outdoors, our journey into farming began with a simple desire to provide our family, friends, and wider community with fresh, wholesome food - food produced with care, transparency, and respect for the land and animals. What started as a personal passion has grown into a small‑scale farm rooted in traditional values and a strong sense of place.

Our Mission

At Castors Pastures, our mission is to support healthier living through sustainable, pasture‑based farming. We believe good food starts with respect - for the land, for the animals, and for the people who eat it.

Everything we do is guided by a commitment to environmental stewardship, animal welfare, and community wellbeing. From raising our chickens on pasture to supplementing their diet with carefully chosen organic feed, each step of our process is designed to produce high‑quality, flavourful chicken, while working in harmony with the natural landscape.

By farming on a small scale and prioritising thoughtful, responsible practices, we aim to protect the character of our countryside, strengthen local food connections, and provide our community with food they can trust - now and for generations to come.

Our Values

  • Sustainability: We are committed to sustainable, pasture‑based farming practices that protect and enhance the land, ensuring it remains healthy and productive for future generations.

  • Community: We believe in the importance of strong local connections. By engaging with our village and surrounding areas, we aim to create shared experiences and a closer relationship between people and the food they eat.

  • Health: Promoting healthy living is at the heart of what we do. We focus on producing fresh, wholesome food raised with care, so our customers can feel confident in both its quality and provenance.

  • Integrity: We operate with honesty, transparency, and accountability. From how our animals are raised to how our food is produced, we believe our customers deserve to know - and trust - the full story.

  • Respect: Respect guides every decision we make. We treat our animals with care, steward our land responsibly, and value the relationships we build within our community.

  • Innovation: While rooted in traditional farming values, we are always looking for thoughtful ways to improve — refining our practices, embracing better methods, and continually raising the standard of what we produce.

  • Education: We are passionate about sharing knowledge. By helping our community better understand sustainable farming and healthy food choices, we aim to empower people to make informed decisions about what they eat and where it comes from.
